Another insightful read, Hannah! Have you heard of David Duchovny's podcast "Fail Better"?

He has a wide assortment of guests, mostly actors/artists/musicians. While I've only listened to a handful of them, it has been refreshing to listen about people's experiences with failure in a re-framed perspective.

This section you wrote particularly resonated with me and I know Duchovny would love it! :)

"While many people look to accomplishments as a measure of success, a wise question to ask yourself is: Am I failing regularly enough? If not, it might be time to pursue getting out of your comfort zone and taking on bigger challenges that will facilitate rapid growth and transformation."

It's scary to fail! :0

Especially since so many of us have been trained to believe that failure = bad.

I enjoyed reading the other sections too; I don't think I read this in 2024, so I'm happy you brought it back!

This is a fascinating exploration of hedonic adaptation through the lens of metabolic healing. The concept of "investment in loss" particularly resonates - facing our inner beasts (whether mental illness, challenges, or fears) head-on rather than avoiding them. Your journey shows how confronting the beast of psychiatric illness led to discovering metabolic therapies and ultimately greater resilience. The negative visualization practice you describe is essentially making friends with the beast - acknowledging what could go wrong to better appreciate what's right. It's a powerful reframe that transforms struggle into wisdom.
